Dr Phil Cox MBChB MSc MRCGP (2016) - Education

At Leeds University I Graduated in the top 1/3 of year and shadowed Leeds United Football Club’s doctor to gain an understanding of how the club doctor integrates with the other medical and coaching staff to optimise the performance of the players. I spent my elective working with the medical staff of the Queensland Reds RUFC (Brisbane, Australia) and at the Brisbane Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre. During this time I provided medical cover to the Australian U19 7s trials which involved triaging and performing minor procedures upon players.

I undertook a Master’s Degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine to develop my clinical knowledge and improve the services I can provide in future sports and exercise medicine occupations. The modules covered on this course included:

  • Sports Injuries

  • Exercise Physiology, Metabolism & Nutrition

  • Immediate and Pre-hospital Care of the Injured Athlete:

  • Physical Activity in Health and Disease

  • Research Methods

I completed my General Practice training in Bridgend in 2016 to become a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners.

My Education

I attended Leeds Medical School and completed a Masters Degree in Sports & Exercise Medicine at Nottingham University (with merit)
